Definition of Anime
The term anime in English refers to Japanese animation , often characterized by stylized colorful graphics depicting vibrant characters in fantastic or futuristic action-filled plots.
Anime features a great variety of genres, and a unique artistic style. As with live-action cinema, it spans: adventure, science fiction, children's stories, romance, medieval fantasy, erotica (hentai) and others. Anime has become an expressly commercial art form; producers and marketers aim for very specific audiences, with well-defined categories for boys and girls genres, as well as for teenagers and adults.
Here are some Anime that are I would recommend for a beginner/someone just getting into anime.
Initial D
Initial D - On Akina mountain in Gunma prefecture, young men gather at night to race their cars down the mountain. When a famous racing team, the Akagi Redsuns headed by the rich Takahashi brothers, comes to Akina to race the local team, the Akina Speedstars, their leader Iketani knows that they don't have a chance to win unless they can find the mysterious tofu delivery driver who beat the younger Takahashi on the Akina mountain downhill.
They discover that the mysterious driver is Iketani's own co-worker, Fujiwara Takumi, a high-school student who, although he just got his driver's licence, has been secretly delivering tofu for his dad's shop for 5 years. Can Takumi, a local boy who knows nothing about cars, beat the famous Takahashi on the downhill and save Akina's honor? Will he even show up for the race?
Gundam Wing
Gundam Wing - Gundam Wing's plot line is one filled with political strife, corruption, greed, and 5 teenage boys (among many others) coping with war.The colonies orbiting the earth are being oppressed by the government of Earth and demand freedom.5 scientists from 5 different colonies each build a Gundam, train a pilot and send them and their mecha to Earth to fight. All 5 are talented pilots and rip through their opponents with ease.However, with some political manipulation, the colonies that once supported them have turned against them. Now, the 5 pilots must fight their fight hidden or underground and restore peace to earth and space.
Trigun
Trigun - Trigun is an excellent comedy series!! The hero, Vash the Stampede, is an outlaw with a bounty of $$60 Billion on his head. However, he has a strong principle of NOT taking a human life, so all of the damage and casualties that follow in his wake are caused by the people after the reward. Vash is being followed by two insurance agents, Meryl Stripe and Millie Thompson, who are there to try and stop all the damage that is driving up insurance rates. Basically, Vash is a sharp-shooting, bullet dodging......buffoon. :O) Their story is told in a 26-episode TV series based on the manga by Yasuhiro Nightow.
Cowboy Beebop
Cowboy Beebop - Spike Speigel and Jet Black are bounty hunters traveling across space in the ship called Bebop. Although Spike manages to capture criminals with huge bounties, he causes a lot of damage in the process, so he's left with very little money. During his adventures, Spike comes across a variety of characters and surreal landscapes. Some of the traveling companions he picks up are Ein, a genetically enhanced Welsh Corgie(a type of small dog,) Faye Valentine, a woman with a passion for gambling and so forth.
Outlaw Star
Outlaw Star - Outlaw Star is a cool show about two young bounty hunters/salesmen named Jim Hawking and Gene Starwind who, one day, get a call from a outlaw in disguise named Hilda (aka Rachel) who asks for a bodyguard and it's a downward spiral from there. Along the way they get a spaceship called the Outlaw Star, meet a cat girl named Aisha and a assassin named Suzuka.
Iria :Zeiram the Animation
Iria :Zeiram the Animation - Old-world oriental designs meet new-world
technology might be the best way to describe this SF anime series. Many of the
mecha and set designs have a decidedly turn-of-the-century Chinese/Japanese
flair to them, giving this story of a female bounty hunter a decidedly retro
feel. Iria is the younger sister of Gren, a highly regarded bounty hunter whose
skills in weapons and martial arts are unequalled in the business. When a
mission goes bad, Iria is forced to work on her own, trying to bring down
Zeiram, a genetically-designed killing machine, which is purported to be
unstoppable.
